With the soaring popularity of rock music during the past few decades, many people have become eager to learn how to play the guitar. Of course many of these would-be musicians are teenagers with dreams of becoming rock superstars, but many others just want to learn how to play guitar for the fun of it. Many of them, unfortunately, didn’t find helpful ways to learn how to play the instrument, and they gave up after a few unsuccessful attempts.

Different people have different requirements when it comes to learning. Further, we have different resources, different jobs, different errands to attend to and different schedules. If you are not playing at the level that you would like, perhaps it is simply because you have not yet found the best method by which you can learn to play guitar. Learning how to play the guitar can be done in several ways. You can find several of them here.

1. Using Theory Books.

There are thousands of theory books for sale on the market which teach you how to play guitar. Some are very good and can give you the information you need to learn. Learning how to play a musical instrument by-the-book is inexpensive and can be done in the comfort of your home. Regrettably, history indicates that for many of those trying, they simply do not work. For a patient person, who learns well from books, this may be a method that will work quite well.

2. Using Video Lessons

Video guitar lessons can be found on DVDs and video tapes in virtually any music store, as well as in the online stores. Plus, if you preform a search online, you will be able to find many video lessons. Some of them are actually free of charge. Video lessons are more dynamic and as such there is a better chance that you will remain focused. You can take advantage of watching them and practicing around your own schedule in the privacy of your own home. But the disadvantage is that you are indeed alone, so you can’t benefit from the one-to-one attention and comments of a teacher.

3. Taking Private Lessons

If you have the time and money to dedicate to your guitar learning, private lessons can be a wonderful way to learn how to play. When you find a quality teacher, you will be designed a lesson plan that will adapt to your learning style. You will also receive the personalized attention and positive feedback that you need to keep you on track and motivated to keep learning. And of course, a teacher can spot and fix your mistakes immediately.

Learning to Play By Ear

If you have a musical bone in your body and it is filled with vibration, then you might find that learning by ear will be very enjoyable. It may even prove to be the best way for you to learn how to play guitar. As technology advances, learning to play guitar is becoming a lot easier than it has been in the past.

The most important thing to remember is that above all, playing the guitar should be fun. If it becomes too difficult or stressing, you may have to try a different learning method. Some people need to try a number of different learning methods before finding the best one. But if your heart’s desire is to play the guitar like a pro and you have plenty of time and money, private lessons are probably the best option for you.
