Who Needs Acting Classes
Posted on 01. Feb, 2010 by amauto.
Now that you know you want to be an actor, you’ll want to take a few acting classes so that you can feel more confident about your skills and get the jobs you want. If you’re not quite sure which types of classes you need to enroll in, or you want to know where to find acting classes in your area, here is some information that may help.
First, it’s important to realize that you may have to move in order to attend the best acting classes for perfecting your craft. If you live near New York or Los Angeles, chances are you may not have too much of a problem finding classes that will teach you everything you need to know. Acting classes are also becoming more popular in areas like Chicago or Washington, D.C. so check the Arts section of your local newspaper to get more details.
The Professional Actor Training Program is one of the great acting classes that you’ll want to consider. This is an intense acting course that gives you the training you need to be a theater actor. The course could prepare you for appearing in a Broadway production, and lasts for eight weeks. TVI Studios, which are located in Los Angeles and New York, sponsor these classes, and you can even attend the classes if you’re an international student and have a visa. TVI Acting Studios also has courses for child actors, so if your son or daughter has expressed an interest in going into ‘the business’ these courses will definitely help with learning more about creating a character or portraying emotions in a believable way.
You can also find out about acting classes that are being held at your local community center. These classes are usually affordable, and you’ll most likely find out first about community plays so that you can audition for these performances as soon as possible. You’ll be able to become a little more well-known on the local scene, and you never know how this can propel your career. Even if you don’t live in ‘the big city’, you may live close to a metropolitan area, and more casting directors are going to remote parts of the country to look for real talent.
Once you find the acting classes that you like, you’ll need to make sure that you’re doing all the ‘homework’ that is required to help you improve your skills. Looking in the mirror when you’re practicing will definitely help. Practice projecting your voice, making realistic facial expressions, and delivering lines honestly in between your acting classes, and become as familiar as popular with classic plays and scripts. Good luck!

Acting Career That is Right for You
Posted on 31. Jan, 2010 by amauto.
You’re inspired each time you watch a movie. You’re always watching television shows to pick up tips and techniques from your favorite actors. You’ve even decided to start taking a few acting classes at your local community center or university. If you’re sure that you want to pursue an acting career, there are a few things you should know in order to be successful.
First, you have to market yourself–especially when you’re just starting out. Even if you’ve been in a few commercials or have done some voice acting, you’ll need to promote yourself and your talents every chance you get. Find out when there are artist networking events in your area, and get to know local directors or fellow actors who can tell you about job opportunities. After you have a few solid jobs under your belt, you may want to hire an agent or manager. This will mean you’ll have additional expenses for your acting career, but when you feel that you need additional help to organize your gigs, this will help to keep your schedule in order.
While you’re promoting yourself and arranging to attend casting calls, you’ll need to get a few headshots so that you can pass them out to casting directors when you go to auditions. A resume that details your past accomplishments is also ideal; you can also paste your headshot to the back of your resume for better presentation. Going to as many casting calls as you can will help you to get to know casting directors that may visit your area often. After your audition, the panel of directors will evaluate you and tell you the things you need to work on. Take this advice to heart, and use it when you audition again. For instance, if you’re told that you don’t speak loudly enough when you’re reading the script, or if you’re ‘overacting’ keep this in mind when you’re practicing. This will help you to perfect your craft and will help casting directors take notice in the future.
Making sure that you have a look that can be easily changed will also help to boost your acting career. If you have a ‘young’ face, you’ll be able to take more child actor roles, even if you’re in your 20’s. If your hair is long, it can be cut or pulled back to accomplish the look that matches your character. Staying healthy and active will also give you more energy that is needed to pursue your acting career, and will give you an edge on landing extremely physical roles.
