Can An Acoustic Guitar Make Sound If No One Is There To Listen?
Posted on 08. Sep, 2010 by amauto.
There is another side of acoustic guitar buying that I seldom hear discussed. It could be called the supernatural method.
I am one of those new age types that believes the life of the wood worker is crafted into the instrument.Often you can sense the guitar even before you see it. An instrument made by a life in gloom and dispair will have that could of deppression hanging over it for ever!” Might be a good choice if your strictly into the blues. A guitar born of the heart will live heartily.
Just because a guitar is not hand made does not meant it is lifeless. There is not a guitar anywhere that was not first a thought in a mind. The guitar was crafted from exotic woods grown in exotic lands. How many years of sunshine and rain are stored in that dreadnought or solid body? Perhaps hundreds of men and women around the world helped to get that guitar to you? If many of us were investigated we would be found guilty of choosing a nice guitar store over an exibition by dead Van-whoever. OK, I do enjoy looking at dead Van’s work but give me a well stocked guitar gallery any day.
I remember a time when I stopped into a guitar store in our town. I had about $400 in my pocket and was ready to buy a guitar. I had my mind set on a Takamine guitar. I picked it up and played it again, for the umpteenth time. I liked the looks, the sound, and the feel of this instrument but I was somehow not satisfied with it. There was this very small feeling of buyers remorse starting to set in. I left the guitar on its stand and meant to exit the store with out making a purchase. I was about to exit the building but I felt compelled to look towards the used instrument section. I was in that area of the store a few minutes before. I had looked at an interesting electric guitar but had no intention of buying one.
When I returned to the used instrument department I was immediately aware of a beautiful sunburst Crafter. I had wrongly thought that Crafter made inferior guitars. This one looked pretty nice. I knew immediately this was my soul guitar. I made that guitar mine. that guitar played music to my spirit before I saw it with my eyes.
There I said it, the guitar called to me. Now I am revealed to be a crystal hugging new age kind of guy.
You can call it Zen, Synchronicity, or dumb luck, or you can call it what ever. I personally believe music is a spiritual device and the whole process can be as deep as you want to go. Even while shopping for a fingerstyle acoustic guitar. Happy shopping!

How To Get The Most Out Of Your Acoustic Set List.
Posted on 13. Apr, 2010 by amauto.
Perfecting an acoustic set list can really open your band up to a number of positive opportunities. A great level of emotion is often sparked from this type of music. Several things must be remembered though. The low tone must be fitting, the percussion must be fitting and the music needs to be performed in the proper type of environment. This type of music should be performed in the right type of way and the same also goes for recording it.
Just as in electric music, low tones play a very central part in acoustic music. Electric rock bass lines, can often be way to powerful for this type of music. They just do not fit with the lightly strummed guitar. Several things can fix this very easily. The primary guitarist can either create low tones with his thumb while he plays the guitar arrangement or another guitarist can create this effect using a standard six string instrument. Having your choice of bassist play these tones on a special acoustic bass is another viable option.
Let us not forget how very important it is to have the right type of percussion when performing this music. Traditional drum kits must be softened and played very lightly. The best possible solution is to utilize one or even several types of hand percussion units. These include but are not limited to, tambourines and bean shakers.
Many bands do not take the time to find the right type of environment for the performance of acoustic music. This achieves a level of sound quality that is closer to perfection. The environment while being smaller tighter, must also provide the proper level of projection. This helps with the acoustics. The people listening should sit very close to the musicians. A guitar with a clear tone is often utilized. When in doubt try a dreadnought acoustic guitar. This will improve the quality of the sound a great deal.
Do not forget that to achieve the right sound, acoustic music has a certain way that is should be played by the musician. A musician is typically very relaxed and in some type of seat or chair. The beat to this music is usually much slower. Keep this in mind when performing acoustic renditions of electric work. A pick may be used, however sometimes fingers are preferred. An instrument like the alvarez acoustic guitar was practically made to be picked.
Acoustic sets have a very specific way they should be recorded. This always helps to ensure optimum quality in the final result. The easiest option is to choose acoustic guitars that have an electric option. Like an ibanez acoustic electric guitar. This provides a direct input into the mixer while keeping the pure acoustic sound. If an instrument without an electrical option is used simply place boom microphones at the base of the musicians or use a special microphone that clips onto the instrument.
Learning to master the acoustic sets can help your act out for so many obvious reasons. The benefits are often great. The number one benefit is to display your band as a versatile one.

Pick Up An Air Guitar And Let Your Imagination Soar!
Posted on 30. Mar, 2010 by amauto.
If you look at a human brain, you will see that it’s split right down the middle into a left half and a right half. The two halves only share slender connections and they operate independently of each other.
Most of us are only acquainted with our left brain. That is the one that does all the linear thinking and verbalizing. Our language centers are on that side of the brain. If you, like most people, spend your time listening to or creating an inner dialog and only think spatially and in pictures when you sleep, you are living in your left brain.
The right brain is a wonderful world of color and music. That is where the seat of the imagination lies. The only connection outside of sleep that most of us have with the wisdom of the right brain is through the works of musicians and artists. Many psychologists are now suggesting ways to activate our right brain creative capacity. One of the things they suggest, believe it or not, is playing air guitar! Living in a left brain world is kind of like wearing a black helmet that keeps your imagination from taking flight. Playing air guitar is like throwing that restrictive helmet away.
It does not matter what media you choose to express yourself with, as long as it is not primarily language based. Music is the language of the right brain and so is an excellent start. Let us take a Dreadnought acoustic guitar as our example and put it to use as a tool for right brain activation.
If you like, go into an imaginary guitar store and choose another brand, like a Takamine acoustic guitar. We’re not trying to promote a particular brand, here. The idea is to choose an instrument that you can identify with to use as your air guitar. Once you have chosen it, feel it in your hands and look at how beautiful it is. Now start strumming on your imaginary guitar. See what comes into your head. It may be a favorite riff or you might even find yourself playing your very own original composition.
If you can hear the music playing in your mind, you are off to a great start. Your right brain is now activated. If you are new to this, your left brain will take over and try to get you to analyze what you are doing or something and the sounds and images will fade. If you concentrate and fill in the picture, imagining yourself playing in front of a crowd, it will help.
When you’re done, you will probably feel refreshed and invigorated. Your right brain is not restricted by time and space and will have given you a break from the limitations imposed by your left brain. Try activating your right brain. You will be astounded by the difference it will make in your outlook on life!

Insights Into Guitars
Posted on 29. Mar, 2010 by amauto.
Gaining a respect for what musical instruments can bring to life is easy to do once one takes a few minutes to look at what something like a guitar does in somebody’s hands. Not only is something like a guitar shapely and beautiful, but it also produces melodic noise that is possible even from the fingers of someone who’s never really appreciated music before deciding to give playing it a try.
For example, think for a minute about how really popular a dreadnought acoustic guitar is among certain musicians. This is especially the case when it comes to any singer-songwriter, no matter his or her fame or popularity. Because the guitar is portable and can be carried anywhere, most any musician can pull one out and work out a chord progression that may have just popped in his or her head, for example.
That’s the real beauty of a guitar; it can be taken almost anywhere, slung over a back or carry around in a case, which is something that one can’t say for a drum set or a grand piano. This isn’t to take anything away from those who play these two instruments, but the guitar — especially over the last century — has really made it possible to bring music to the masses.
Nowadays, the list of guitar makers out on the marketplace is endless. They can be found in almost every music store — which may feature a really nice Alvarez acoustic guitar alongside three or four other different makes of the same kind of guitar — and at a variety of prices. Certainly, music stores carry many more guitars than they do traditional band instruments, partly because they are relatively easy to play.
It really matters little what the style of music that’s going to be played on a guitar, because just about any style — from classical all the way up to highbrow jazz — transfers over very easily to a guitar. Maybe somebody has been hit with a desire to learn to play music and is casting about for the right kind of instrument to play it on. Going with a guitar could be the solution.
For those thinking about learning to play any instrument, remember that it can be easier to do so when one has a decently-made instrument to learn on. Even department stores today carry guitars, but it’s always better to spend a few extra dollars for something like a nice Takamine acoustic guitar that will play just as nicely rather than to try to make something out of a cheap department store knockoff.
Appreciating certain musical instruments for what they bring to the musical world is easy after just a short amount of time learning how they’ve helped to bring music to the masses. However, going with a well-made acoustic guitar, for example, will always make the job of learning to play music that much easier than just about anything else, and that’s a very nice thing.

Playing The Guitar For A Lifetime
Posted on 10. Mar, 2010 by amauto.
How many people — no matter the age — have dreamed about picking up a guitar and learning how to play at? For sure, just about every teenage boy has dreamed of making the big time in a rock band, though it’s usually the case that the band they find themselves in never makes it much further than the garage doorway. This isn’t always the case, of course, so play until the fingers bleed.
The first thing to understand about playing guitar is that if you go with cheap equipment you’re going to find yourself frustrated and not even willing to learn the harder techniques of playing. That’s why it’s always better to find a quality guitar in all circumstances. And if playing an electric version, think about something like an Epiphone electric guitar. It’s not cheap and it’s quality made.
And quality is the single most important thing to remember, even though getting it may mean a bit more money initially. However, learning to play guitar on a quality instrument will definitely make you a better player over the long run. You won’t have a problem making any sort of chord, for one thing, which a cheap guitar can really turn into a torture session, to be honest.
All of the above also applies to southpaws who look at traditional right-handed guitars and immediately give up on playing. Nowadays, though, just about every quality guitar manufacturer makes electric guitars and a quality left handed acoustic electric guitar or two for those who come to the game like Jimi Hendrix did. He’s probably the most famous southpaw player in rock history.
Keep in mind, also, that learning to play the guitar will probably be a slightly painful experience at first, at least until the calluses on the fingertips of one hand or the other are sufficiently present. Also, building up the muscles of the hand that is going to be forming notes and chords on the neck of the guitar will also take some time.
If done correctly, one will soon be able to pick up something like an Ibanez acoustic electric guitar (they make a number of fine models, it must be said) and become the next great rock and roller or electric folk rock guitar player on the scene. All it takes is some effort and a willingness to ’suffer’ for one’s craft.
Playing the guitar for a lifetime is made a lot easier when one has a good guitar of nice quality and love of music. Also, one is going to need to be willing to practice and keep on practicing until one gets good enough to play smartly and with style and verve, kind of like how Jimi Hendrix used to do it when he turned rock guitar playing upside down, literally.

Catch ya later,
